GOING GREEN
Population growth and global industrialization are accelerating the depletion of our natural resources. Around the world, demand for energy continues to grow and fresh water scarcity is becoming a global reality. How we respond to these challenges will determine the sustainability of our future lifestyles, the sustainability of our communities as we know them, and ultimately the sustainability of our planet.
Our aim at the Sierra Vista Chalet is to provide you a comfortable home while also meeting the highest standards of sustainability. We work in partnership with world-class sustainability experts to develop and implement sustainability framework for the Sierra Vista Chalet.
Examples of our commitment include:
- Heating: the chalet is heated exclusively with geothermal heat pumps. We are among the first in Mono County!
- Construction: Throughout the course of our recent remodel we have worked to use sustainable materials, including the 43% recycled Alaska Grey ceramic tile throughout the Chalet.
- Recycling: Mono County does not yet support residential recycling, yet we pay to be one of the few in the June Lake loop that actively recycles. See Sierra Conservation Project for more details.
- Lighting: 80% of the center is lit with CFL light bulbs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have a video of the property? Yes, please click here.
Can I bring my pets? They are really, really well behaved. No. There is a kennel with a great reputation in nearby Bishop.
Are there additional charges or taxes? We do not charge any cleaning fees, however we will make decuctions from your deposit if you leave the Chalet exceptionally dirty or don't comply with checkout directions. Mono Country requires a 12% Transient Occumpancy Tax. We require a refundable security deposit of $1000.
Do you have laundry? Yes. High-end washer and dryer in the garage.
Do we need to bring bed linens or towels for the bathrooms and jacuzzi, etc.? You don’t need to bring a thing. The house is fully equipped with organic cotton sheets, towels for both the jacuzzi and shower, etc.
It appears the kitchen is fully equipped with dishes, utensils, coffee maker, etc. Do we need to bring anything with us besides food? It is completely equipped, down to the coffee maker, coffee grinder, and garlic press. We even leave out salt, olive oil and assorted spices.
What is the snow like right now? Click here for the June Mountain Ski Report.
Is there a barbecue on the property? Because of the high fire danger in the Eastern Sierras we do not own a barbecue and outside of the winter months we discourage the use of barbecues on the property. However, if you are a die-hard barbecue guy you may set up your own propane barbecue on the back deck.
Can I have my wedding/family reunion at the Chalet? Absolutely not. We are committed to a low-key presence in the community and are not comfortable with the Chalet being a venue for any kind of event.
Do we bring our own firewood? We will supply you with a small batch of firewood as a complimentary gift. Should you wish to buy additional wood we can arrange for wood to be stacked on the back deck for the following rates: 1/4 cord = $80; 1/2 cord = $140; a full cord = $260. A two-week advanced notice is required for all wood orders.
Why do you have a 3-car limit? June Lake is strongly influenced by a politically active and passionate community of second home owners that hold dearly June Lake’s understated charm. Keeping no more than three guest cars in our driveway at all times promotes the harmony we seek to maintain and cultivate with our neighbors and the community at large. Should this rule be violated we will withhold your security deposit and ask that you promptly move to other accommodation.
The chalet is so huge. Why are only 8 guests allowed? Even though the Chalet is zoned as a commercial property, Mono County sets strict limits on the number of people that are allowed in this structure. This is non-negotiable because if the County rules are violated we will lose our business licencse. Should this rule be violated we will withhold your security deposit and require that you vacate the premises immediately.
Can I have friends over? As long as you have no more than 8 persons on the property at any time, you bet.
How much privacy does the loft in the Master Bedroom offer? Like any typical loft setup, the individual(s) sleeping in the loft will have a commanding view of the rest of the room.
Will we have access to the entire chalet? Everything advertised (see the floor plan below) is 100% accessible at all times. A small room behind the bar will not be available.
Is there only one "master bedroom"? Yes, there is only one master bedroom. However, each of the other bedrooms has its own bathroom. One has a claw-footed tub and shower combo. The other has a shower.
Can we land at Mammoth airport? What would your recommendations be if we are coming from out of state? Flights to Mammoth (MMH) are getting better by the year, especially in the winter. It's a 25 minute drive from the airport to the chalet.
In general the airport is super convenient. The hitch is that if you have a critical connection and there is a storm you can get stuck.
Driving from LA is usually fine in a storm. The only problem is that you may have to put on chains for the last 40 miles if you don't have a 4x4. During major storms, however, chain installers usually offer their services on the side of the road.
